When NBA legend Michael Jordan spoke out in support of black issues and police brutality, then donated $1 million each to two organizations, many people wondered why it took him so long. His donations to the Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund are a great start, but what more can be done with his multi-million dollar net worth.
Well, Atlanta rapper Killer Mike has an idea!
In an Instagram caption posted last week, Killer Mike challenged Jordan to use profits from the sales of the “Gold Medal” Air Jordan 5 Retro, and deposit it into a black-owned bank. The “Gold Medal” sneakers will be released at the end of the month.
Killer Mike believes that Jordan, as well as, other NBA players should financially support the #BankBlack movement.
The emcee/activist led a powerful initiative in the past month urging African-Americans to open up accounts at black-owned banks. The initiative has welcomed over $800,000 in new account deposits.
