The Weeknd recently donated $50,000 to the University of Toronto’s Ethiopic Studies And Culture program.

The donation will help fund an initiative to “foster academic, professional and business excellence and promote(s) volunteerism among persons of Ethiopian origin,” according to Bikila Award, Inc.

The goals of the program is to “disseminate to the larger world, through research and education, the unique contributions of the Ethiopian cultural heritage in art, literature, and languages.”

The Bikila Award organization contacted The Weeknd, who is Ethopian-Canadian, and immediately heard back from him. Check out the tweets that confirmed his support:
