A handwritten letter from rap icon Tupac Shakur recently sold for $172,750. The 4-page memento was the highest-selling auction piece, brining in more bids than memorabilia once owned by Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali. Shakur’s total 10-lot collection sold for $205,625, according to Goldin Auctions. The letter was written, in 1995, while Shakur was serving out his prison sentence. It was written for and sent to Nina Bhadreshwar, of Deathrow Records. Almost two months later, Shakur was killed in Las Vegas while riding shotgun in a BMW with Suge Knight. “This remarkable letter from Tupac exemplifies what’s thrilling about the auction business as this recently discovered find caught the eye of several serious and well-heeled bidders who went back and forth for hours until this record-setting price was reached,” said Ken Goldin, Founder of Goldin Auctions. “We congratulate all of our consigners and bidders on being part of this historic night.”
