Facebook has launched a communications tool, specifically for businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations. The tool is called Workplace and is a stand-alone Facebook platform, not connecting to existing accounts. In order to use Workplace, there’s a fee per number of active users. For business accounts with up to 1,000 active users, the cost is $3 per month. However, the fee is lowered the more users an account holder has. A 10,000 monthly users or more account holder can purchase a Workplace for as low as $1 per month.

Workplace is free for nonprofit organizations and educational institutions.

The goal is to “connect everyone” in various types of work spaces, according to Julien Codorniou, head of Workplace at Facebook.  The platform allows users to build their own profiles and see news feeds from co-workers. There are options to use live video, make video calls, and use group chats. Although Workplace color scheme is gray, not the infamous Facebook blue, the tool is easy to use given that most of it’s functions are the same as regular Facebook.
