The Motown Museum will receive a huge makeover courtesy of the Ford Motor Company and the Ford chapter of United Automobile Workers (UAW) union. The automobile manufacturer has announced that they will invest $6 million into the legendary music label-turned-museum. The Detroit-based Motown Museum will cost $50 million to completely renovate, however, the funds will go toward exhibits, a recording studio, and a theater. “We are thrilled to play a role in the next chapter of a global music icon,” said Joe Hinrichs, president, The Americas, Ford Motor Company. “The enhanced museum will not only upgrade the visitor experience, it also fits with our commitment to investing in the cultural heritage of Detroit and southeast Michigan.” The new theater will be called the Ford Motor Company theater. The museum will include the CARaoke Experience, an interactive activity with cars and music incorporated, as well as, educational and other music-based programs. Motown Museum is located at Hitsville U.S.A., a house-turned-studio space where many Motown greats created hits and superstar personas. Hitsville U.S.A. later became Motown Records and moved its headquarters to California in the early 1970s. Source: Billboard
