Key pioneers in Hip-Hop, R&B, and an eclectic mix of all genres has been added to the GRAMMY Hall of Fame. The Recording Academy announced today that songs composed and written by Billie Holiday, Prince, Jackson 5 and N.W.A. will be included among the 1,034 other recordings added throughout the years. “Lady Sings the Blues” (Billie Holiday), “ABC” (Jackson 5), “Sign O’ the Time” (Prince), and “Straight Outta Compton” (N.W.A.) was selected based on the Recording Academy’s requirement of being at least 25 years old. “The GRAMMY Hall Of Fame represents all genres of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which The Academy has become renowned,” said The Recording Academy president and CEO Neil Portnow in a statement. “Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog and are an integral part of our musical, social and cultural history.” Check out this year’s list of inductees below: Arlo Guthrie – “The City of New Orleans” The Beach Boys – “I Get Around” Billie Holiday – Lady Sings the Blues Blind Willie McTell – “Statesboro Blues” Bonnie Raitt – “I Can’t Make Your Love Me” Cab Calloway And His Orchestra – “(Hep-Hep!)
