Today, the 2017 Golden Globe nominees were announced and it’s clear that the “black magic” was in full effect.

The deeply intimate, character film “Moonlight” is deserving of its six nominations. The Barry Jenkins-directed film is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Original Score for instance. In related news, “Moonlight” recently was named ‘Best Picture’ by the New York Film Critics Online Association.

For the Golden Globes, HBO’s breakout hit “Insecure” was noticed this year by the Golden Globe committee. It’s creator and star, Issa Rae, received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

Another favorite, “Atlanta,” was nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The show’s creator Donald Glover, also received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

The Golden Globes are scheduled to air on January 8 at 8 p.m. EST.
