Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly axed gospel singer Kim Burrell’s scheduled performance on her show. This news arrives just days after Burrell was blasted for preaching anti-gay rhetoric during a church service in Houston, Texas. The gospel singer/evangelist was scheduled to perform a song from the movie “Hidden Figures” with Pharrell Williams.
TMZ caught up with singer/actor Janelle Monae, who is also expected to appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” the same day to promote Hidden Figures. When asked about Burrell’s appearance on the show, Monae replied “She’s not performing.”
Monae shared her opinion on Burrell’s sermon with TMZ. “I don’t stand for any hate speech,” she said. “Or anything that targets our fellow brothers and sisters in a negative way.” Monae also shared these same sentiments via Instagram.
