The newly revamped MTV Movie & TV Awards aired on Sunday night. Previously known as the MTV Movie Awards, the new awards show celebrated outstanding talent in the film and television industry. One of our faves, Taraji P. Henson, accepted the award for Best Fight Against the System for her role in Hidden Figures. The actress’s speech was very inspiring and it also pointed out how we all need to deal with our differences for the greater good. “This movie was bigger than all of us. We understood that. We understood that this was the task at hand. We understood that this was a part of history that needed to be re-implemented into the blood and veins of American history. And for me, it was very important because I grew up with an understanding. No one ever told me that girls couldn’t do math or science. But, it was an understanding that it was for boys. So I remember getting this script being very upset because I felt like a dream was stolen from me. And, it became my mission and everyone’s mission who was involved with this film to dispel that myth. So, that another young girl do not grow up thinking that her mind isn’t capable of grasping math and science. If it were not for these women, we wouldn’t be in space. And not only that, the message of the movie is togetherness. I hate the separatism. I hate that it’s man vs woman. Black vs white. Gay vs straight. Whatever, we’re all humans right. God is very clever. He made us all different for a reason, so we better figure it out.” Other award recipients included “Beauty and the Beast” (Movie of the Year), “Stranger Things” (Show of the Year), Emma Watson (Best Actor in a Movie), Trevor Noah (Best Host) and many more.
