With all the blips, mishaps, and bloopers in the world of professional sports and not to mention the adultery, gun toting and off-the-wall shenanigans, I must admit that I never saw this one coming. Never in 40 acres and a mule, Rosa Parks keeping her seat and Martin Luther King Jr. having a dream in which one is not “judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” or in this case talent, did I ever think this would happen. And even as I keep running the thought through my head, I still must ask myself could this possibly be? As you can seen I am shocked, no I am stunned, no actually I am downright appalled at the mere fact that a part of what has always been seen as the majority still feels the need to minimize the minority. Maybe it’s just me so I’ll let you be the judge.

According to a report in the Augusta Chronicle, a new professional basketball league hosting a White-American only roster is aiming to launch in 12 southeast cities this summer with the hopes of Augusta being one of them. In a statement from their press release, The All-American Basketball Alliance said “only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league.”

WOW, right? Well what’s even more shocking are some of the things the Atlanta-based league’s commissioner Don “Moose” Lewis had to say. While on one hand he says,

“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing, I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.”

He goes on to say, that he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of “street-ball played by people of color…Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch? That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.”

Fundamental basketball? What is Moose talking about? A lay up is a lay up, a post play is a post play, a crossover pass is a crossover pass, a pick & roll is a pick & roll, a free throw is a free throw and a foul is a foul in ANY game of basketball. And deception, timing, quickness and accuracy are everything across the board. So again I say…fundamental basketball? What are you really saying Moose?

Oh and before I go, let me not forget to point out that they are calling this “All-American”. Can somebody PUH-LEASE tell me in a country that’s soooo diverse, what’s All-American about “whites-only”? I guess next Moose will want a white history month?
