HomeFeatureRaptors Kyle Lowry Named All-Star Starter Abner Jackson III Monday, January 26, 2015 Feature, Sports, The Game Toronto Raptors Guard Kyle Lowry was recently voted in as starter for the Eastern Conference in next month’s NBA All-Star Game. This will be Lowry first All-Star appearance and the first time a Raptor has started in the ASG since 2007. Lowry surpassed Miami Heat Guard Dwyane Wade in the fan voting as the voting was ending. Lowry was down by as many as 100,000 votes at one point. Lowry is having the best year of his nine-year NBA career averaging a career-high 19.8 points, 7.4 assists, career-high 4.9 rebounds and career-high 1.7 steals. Lowry is currently ranked 8th in the NBA in assists and ranked 13th in the NBA in steals. Lowry has helped lead the Raptors to a 28-15 record, third-best record in the Eastern Conference. Lowry was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month in December, leading the Raptors to a 11-4 record. Lowry most likely would have been selected by coaches as a reserve if he never passed Wade in the voting. In my opinion, Lowry put up similar numbers last season and should have been selected as a reserve in the 2014 ASG. Lowry and Washington Wizards Guard John Wall will be the East starting backcourt in the ASG. Wall and Lowry are becoming the top two point guards in the East, if not both of them belong in the top three. Lowry and the Raptors are one of best teams in the East and should continue to be for the next few years. Raptors Guard DeMar DeRozan was selected as a reserve in the 2014 All-Star Game, the Raptors had the best record in the East when DeRozan got hurt and he missed six weeks of action. Lowry should do well in his first ASG and most likely this won’t be his last ASG. Lowry has finally gotten the recognition he deserves and he should continue to do well in the prime of his NBA career. If DeRozan continue to stays healthy for the next few years, him and Lowry should eventually play together in the ASG. Photo credits: RaptorsRepublic.com
