You win some, you lose some… It is being reported that the estate of the late Prince Rogers Nelson has rejected the $40 million offer made by hip-hop mogul Jay Z. The Roc Nation CEO offered the money in order to secure the rights to Prince’s unreleased music. Last month, Jay Z flew the singer’s sibling and in-law, Tyka and Maurice Phillips, to New York to make the offer in person. However, it was soon revealed that Tyka couldn’t make that decision on her own anyway. Prince’s estate and his other siblings would all have to give an approval before the deal was done. The estate has since issued a letter to Jay Z stating that no deal would be made. One deterrent is said to be that of an outstanding payment of $750,000 from Jay Z, which came from a 2015 deal made with the rapper for the release of Prince’s last album, HitNRun Phase One. Additionally, there’s an ongoing battle with Tidal over the unauthorized streaming of 15 of Prince’s albums just shortly after he passed away.
